Teaser Destiny's Strings

The time has finally come for me to share a bit of Destiny's Strings with you all!! Here's a teaser of my short film:

    I've recently spent a few days in Copenhagen - nope I'm not going to post a picture of the colorful houses of nyhavn, even though I think they're really pretty - and I went to this weird museum, the national museum of Denmark. It wasn't uncommon because of its architecture or interior decorations, that was actually quite conventional. However, the works exhibited were all over the place, and somehow a lot of it had nothing to do with the nation of Denmark. There was a whole section about South America, don't ask me why...

 A great thing was the exhibition room dedicated to the people of Denmark, which was very interesting and insightful as it enabled me to really understand their way of life. There was also a video projection of a documentary about the fact the autonomy of Greenland which is still a danish territory, which I had no idea about!

So, all in all if you have a chance to go to Copenhagen, this is quite a nice way to spend half a day.

Back to what I actually wanted to mention, In that same museum, I took many pictures of some religious figures and statues dating from the early ages of the nation. There was a specific one which reminded me of a book I was reading: My name is Asher Lev.

It is basically the story of a kid, who has a gift and draws majestically, but cannot pursue this career as his from a Hasidic jew community and his father thinks it's against his religion. At the end (sorry spoiler), he will paint a crucifixion staging his parents as the main protagonists causing the outrage of everyone in his family. 

That made me think, religion and the scenes described in the holy books have probably been the first things to be depicted. Art, in general, is so closely related to religion and at the same times, those two things seem to be so conflictual. But, I guess they both enable people to reach a certain state of grace, let's put it this way.

Destiny's Strings

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone is doing fine!

I finally finished editing Destiny's String, hip hip hip hourra! 

There were many many things to fix in post (especially sound wise) and it's still not perfect but I finally accepted it...
I actually reshot a lot of cutaways last december, which is why the process took so long.
I've sent it to a lot of international and indie film festivals and hope it gets at least 1 or 2 screenings but the competition is tough, so fingers crossed!
I've had the chance to work with an amazing team, especially Youssef the young kid playing Adil, who was absolutely fantastic, so even if this short film doesn't make it anywhere it was still an amazing experience!

Unfortunately, since a lot of festivals have a premiere policy, I can't post it online or share it with you... 

However, if you really want to see it then just drop me a message and I'll send you a link with a password so you can watch it.

DESTINY'S STRINGS

Two days ago we finished filming Destiny's Strings. It was hard and exciting and tiring and challenging and thrilling but absolutely amazing :D
Definitely one of the greatest experience of my life. I also got very lucky and had such an amazing team!!
Now I'm starting the editing and looking forward to sharing it with you all!!

The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize

MACHU PICCHU

Hi everyone!

I hope you're all doing well!!
I've finally achieved one of my bucket list first goals: Travelling to the Matchu Picchu!!
It was definitely worth the 24h travels and 3 flights! Absolutely mesmerizing and so out of time! Cuzco somehow reminded me of some parts of Morocco, the very narrow streets, the places that were almost abandoned and poorly maintained but that somehow looked amazing! 
In total, I spent two weeks in Peru. During the first week, I volunteered in Aldea Yanapay, an eclectic school in the suburbs or Cuzco. It was definitely one of the greatest experience of my life. I've learned some much on so many different levels and the kids were fantastic. However, I do really need to practice my spanish, I realized I wasn't fluent at all...
The second week, I got ill and did some tourism, mainly visited ruins but that was interesting. Obviously, I took loads and loads of photos!!

EL GRAN COMBO - Mujer Celosa

CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN

Hi everyone!

I hope you're all doing well and enjoying the summer rays of these days! As some of you might already know, I am currently doing a crowdfunding campaign to raise some money to fund my first professional short film. It's a project that is really close to my heart as I've been thinking about for a few years now. It was supposed to be my graduation film but it was too complicated to finance and to travel with the crew to Morocco. 

It's called Destiny's Strings, it's a 15 min short film and it is basically a Moroccan twist to Billy Elliot the movie. Adil, a 7-year-old boy, wants to become a violinist but his father, who's unfulfilled with his current life, thinks it's a meaningless job and wants his son to aim for a more elitist career. However, Adil who's magnetized by the instrument, will secretly learn to play, causing his father concern and anger when he discovers it. I don't wanna spoil the ending but I really want this movie to be as emotional as possible!
I feel a bit embarrassed to ask for money but anything you can give is definitely going to help us to fund our short film. It's a very challenging project as we have many characters and some very expensive set ups but this won't stop us!

Cinematography Showreel

Lately, I've been working on my showreel, I was actually thinking of doing a director one since I aspire to become a director. However, I realized that I've been more involved in cinematography than directing these past three years, which is a bit weird but I guess I can do both (no so strange since I started by doing photography). 

Anyway, here is a condensed recap of what I have been up to these past three years, a showreel of my best work cinematography wise.

Juliette Armanet - L’Amour en Solitaire

REMORSE a hungarian short film

I hope you're all doing well, even if for most of us exams are coming soon...
Recently, I've been working on a live portal project between my university in London and Ryerson university in Toronto. The brief was to make a proposal for an installation that could exist simultaneously in two designated public ‘storefront’ locations, and to somehow connect these two cities, which are thousands miles away. Our plan was to create a 3D abstract demonstrating two cities coming together. We wanted to build both a London and Toronto skyline made from multi-coloured plexiglass. Tiles would have come away from each structure and meet in the middle at a screen showing live feed from the opposite city. The tiles would have been covered in photographs that would have brought together elements of culture, history and identity from the different cities. Unfortunately, we've lost this competition but we were runners up, and that's not too bad. Anyway, I thought I would still share with you the video I made relating our experience working on the project:

Moreover, I've been working as a director of photography in a hungarian short film. Shooting in hungarian was absolutely fantastic! Such a great experience! This is the graduation film of one of my best friends at university and it's a sci-fi with heart and moral. It's set in a world where you have to pass a test to break into a higher social class, and in that set up, your only identification tool is your right thumb fingerprint. So, when Roland, the main protagonist, has his finger cut off by a group of envious people, his world collapses as he can't study to change social class... I don't wanna spoil this short film and I will hopefully soon be able to post it, but until then, here are some snapshots of the rough cut:

Benjamin Clementine - Condolence

MANCHESTER - MADRID

Hi everyone!

I hope you're all doing well, even if it's been freezing in the UK lately!!
Recently I've been traveling to Manchester and Madrid, two cities that basically have nothing in common, especially the weather... Well, actually they're both well known for their famous football teams but since I'm not a huge fan of the game, I was not gonna point that out (but I did).
Anyway, I very much enjoyed my stay there and obviously took loads of pictures!!

Here are my favorite ones, you won't really be able to recognize the cities through the pictures but I didn't really want to showcase my tourist photo skills.

Selah Sue - Fear Nothing

MANTISSE

Hi everyone!

Happy New Year !!! Time passes by so fast....
I don't know if you remember that, but last year I was preparing a short film called MANTISSE. It came to an end last summer, though we had loads of problems sound wise and I am finally allowed to share it with you (as some festivals have very restrictive policies). It's a noir about 9 min long exploring how rhetoric can be used to change people's perceptions with a bit of a twist ending.

SYNOPSIS:

In a dark interrogation room, Mr Jangus is questioning the untameable Mrs Mantisse, who’s suspected for her husband’s murder. Mantisse is a sarcastic dark woman and it is hard to get anything from her. After several attempts to make her admit her crime, we discover their game and real intentions. This is also a satire on TV series interrogations as they always seems to go towards the same directions.

TOMATO SOUP

Hi everyone!

I hope you're all doing well and enjoying the festive season! Last week, I made an experimental short film for my Audio-vision module. The task was to explore the dialogue between the image and the sound in a 1 to 3 min video. I tried to make an original statement with mine. I'm kind of denouncing war, representing it as an absurd tomato soup. But since it's an artistic piece, you can interpret it however you want! Enjoy!

I'm still a bit shocked over the attacks in Istanbul and Berlin, especially Berlin as I was there just two weeks ago... My short film is therefore quite current unfortunately.

BERLIN

Hi everyone!

I hope everything's going great for you and that you're enjoying the festive season!! 
Last week, I traveled to Berlin. I had never been to germany before and I was really surprised that it was a lot colder than London (maybe because the weather is dry there). 
Moreover, I thought people were quiet nice there, even if that's not the image most of us have of germans for some reasons. 

I only spent a few days in the city but it was definitely worth it and enough to get a glimps of the most important monuments. 
Plus, seeing in person the Berlin wall was even an emotional moment, I studied so much about it in high school, was almost surreal.
All in all, It was so rich historically, architecturally and culturally that I obviously took loads of pictures.
